Montpellier
Cheltenham is made up of many unique shopping districts including Montpellier the home of stylish eats and chic boutiques. With buzzing bars, stunning Regency architecture and beautifully manicured gardens it is a great place to visit day or night as demonstrated in this video…
Since this video has been published, The CheeseWorks is no longer in Montpellier and moved to 5 Regent Street, GL50 1HE.
There are an extensive number of historic and iconic buildings in Montpellier; from The Rotunda which is now home to the Ivy Montpellier Brasserie, to the curved facade of Montpellier Wine Bar. Spot the stone sculptures known as Caryatids (modelled on the Acropolis in Athens), which add to the deliciously continental feel of the area and enjoy the sunken courtyard home to restaurants, bars and cafes. Once a year, the whole street closes for the Montpellier Street Fair, which is definitely worth experiencing.
Shopping
Montpellier is a destination area where independent fashion, antiques and lifestyle boutiques sit alongside cafes and wine bars. Retailers such as Beatrice Von Tresco offer a range of beautiful clothes, many of which are perfect for the Cheltenham Racing events. Meanwhile Sandra Dee offers a fantastic range of lingerie and swimwear while L’una Design has everything you need for interior design. You will also find Blushes, and The Barber Shop for your hair and beauty needs, a number of independent jewellers and Park Gallery, an independent contemporary art gallery too.
Food & Drink
Montpellier Wine Bar and Cote are established firm favourites in the area, while The Chaplais Kitchen is a new addition to the street. The Queen's Hotel has its own in-house restaurant as well as Brasserie Blanc one of Raymond Blanc's portfolio, while John Gordon's offers an exemplary selection of wines, gins and whiskies.
Montpellier Gardens
Montpellier Gardens was part of the original Montpellier Spa developed in the early 19th Century and taken over by the Council in 1893. There are tennis courts, a children’s play area, The Gardens Gallery and a skate park along with a quieter area for relaxing, which features a small arboretum.
